Neolithic themed structures in the heart of the forest
Our response to the brief was based on the Neolithic flint pits once found at High Lodge. We designed a bespoke play area called ‘Knapper’s Nook’. This area featured a climbing structure resembling a giant axe and an interactive area called ‘The Flint Lab’.
Access routes up onto the axe handle include, stumps, a bespoke carved hen walk, and several balance beams with overhead ropes between upright posts with spearheads. The head of the axe carved from a single piece of timber also features climbing grips.
A similar project to this would cost £15,000
‘The Flint Lab’ encourages explorative play, inspired by the movement of flint within the Neolithic flint pits. The lab includes a pulley system installed between two posts, a bespoke carved mixing bowl and a circular sorting table. The combination of the two elements creates an ‘encampment’ feel, encouraging children to interact with one another as they explore and play within the area.
