A variety of exploration zones and an array of physical challenges

When Ravenstone Primary School contacted us in January, they were looking to redevelop their tired nursery and early years playground. We met with EYFS teacher Simon Lewis who together with his team had prepared moodboards to show us what kind of thing they were looking for. They had some great ideas and after the meeting we set about transforming their visions into into a workable design for a wonderful space for both play and learning.

Simon wanted a space that would offer a variety of creative/exploration zones in addition to physical challenges. The school staff were not risk averse and wanted to make sure that the children were provided with equipment that presented a challenge and wasn’t something they could all conquer straight away. After a few tweaks were made to the original design we were delighted to be given the go ahead in the spring with the project to installed over the summer holidays.

The final product

A similar project to this would cost £58,000

Within the site we installed a ‘treehouse’ with two different kinds of bridges leading to a mound surfaced in rubber mulch and an adventure trail. Somersault bars, an Up Den, den building area, mud kitchen, sand and pebble pit and a water exploration area were also provided! The transformation was amazing and it was a great to return and see how much the space is being enjoyed.

“The playground has been a huge success. It has transformed our outside nursery playground into an early years classroom. The children love being out there, they are challenged all the time and the learning is everywhere.”

– Simon Lewis, Headteacher, Ravenstone Primary School
